“Scenes of Kappa Playing by the Water II”
Exhibition Period: May 23 (Sat) – August 21 (Fri), 2026
This exhibition presents 18 works from Soetsu Ueki’s collection depicting kappa alongside water elements such as lakes, rivers, and waterfalls.
Among traditional Japanese yōkai (supernatural beings), the kappa is one of the creatures most closely associated with water. Through these works, visitors are invited to explore how Ueki personified kappa as symbols of Japan’s rich satoyama landscapes and natural water environments.
