Notice of Observatory Window Cleaning 🧽
At Goryokaku Tower, during the season when the cherry blossoms planted in Goryokaku are in full bloom, transforming the fort into a beautiful pink star, we carry out window cleaning at a height of 90 meters to provide visitors with a clear and unobstructed view of Goryokaku and the cityscape of Hakodate.
This work is performed by a team of three workers riding in a gondola suspended from the rooftop of the observatory. Using cloths and squeegees, they carefully clean each of the 315 glass panels (total surface area: 874.52㎡) by hand. Conducted three times a year (before Golden Week, before the Obon holiday season, and before the autumn foliage), this thrilling operation can be observed up close from inside the observatory.
■ Schedule
April 14 (Tue) – April 15 (Wed), 2026
10:00–12:00 / 13:00–16:00 (approx.)

At Goryokaku Tower, window cleaning of the observatory glass (a total of 315 panes) at heights of 90 meters and 86 meters above ground will be carried out over a two-day period.
